Definitely not auditioning for the high wire act at the circus
Last weekend, my dad and grandfather came up to do some handyman work around the place, which included installing a ceiling fan in the living room. It was the most stressed out I’ve been in a long time, watching my 78-year-old grandfather with vision issues and my father who’s slowly recovering from knee surgury stand on a 6″ wide beam while trying to hang this somewhat heavy fan. But it’s done, with minimal swearing and consumption of rum.
One time, I was at a friends’ place. Their dad was fixing a chandelier, and he’d asked them to turn off the power downstairs to the circuit he was working on.
They did.
He started working.
Then they turned it back on by accident.
He jittered a bit, and then tapped his chest.
“Just making usre my pacemaker’s still going…”
I have decided that I’m never letting older people work in my house after that example.
Amen, brother.
