T-minus 4 days and counting

One might think that with the NaNoWriMo challenge looming, I would be doing something to warm up the ol’ writing engine. Like, say, posting something every once in a while. One would be both right and wrong – I should be doing that, and yet clearly I’m not.

There are a myriad of reasons. I have two Halloween costumes to sew. [1],[2] My mother is visiting [3]. I’m in the middle of a challenging but fun knitting project. I’m trying to finish my library book club book before tomorrow, and that ain’t happening. My garden needs to be winterized, and I’m doing it a little at a time. Sometimes I get home from work and it’s all I can do to summon the mental wherewithal to make supper [4].

However, I’ve been doing a lot of off-screen writing and prep for NaNo. I’ve got characters named and described, I’ve got locations set, and I’ve got lots of stuff plotted out. The first two days will be challenging, but since they are weekend days, I’ve got lots of time to write. I don’t have a lot of other social commitments during the month, besides the second Halloween party and Dave’s movie marathon because I am basically a hermit who shuns public spaces and events.

[1] Yes, I’m so important that I am attending two separate Halloween parties and I can’t be seen in the same costume twice.
[2] And yes, I’m sewing them.
[3] And helping with the aforementioned sewing.
[4] I love my job because it’s interesting and challenging and no two days are the same. Which means that when I get home my brain wants to go drink beer and go to sleep.
